The 2026 Frederiksen Insurance Open at The Hideaway Disc Golf Course delivered an unforgettable weekend of disc golf in Terrell, Texas. As a Pro/Am B-Tier event on the King of DFW tour, the stakes were high, but no one could have predicted the sheer drama that unfolded in the Mixed Pro Open (MPO) division.
A Tale of Two Rounds
The weekend started with a bang for Fredy Meza. Coming out of the gates on Saturday, Meza tore up The Hideaway with a blistering 60 in Round 1, establishing a commanding lead. Meanwhile, Mason Marchbanks found himself with significant ground to make up after carding a 69.
But as the saying goes, "it's not over until it's over." Marchbanks mounted one of the most incredible comebacks of the season on Sunday. Finding his rhythm and attacking the course with precision, Marchbanks shot an unbelievable 57 in Round 2—shaving 12 strokes off his previous day's score.
Meza, who put together a solid 66 in the second round, watched his lead evaporate as Marchbanks surged up the leaderboard. When the final putts dropped, both competitors were deadlocked at a total of 126.
The Playoff on Hole 1
With the gallery buzzing, the tournament moved to sudden-death. The playoff began on Hole 1 of The Hideaway, setting the stage for a tense showdown between two players who had battled hard all weekend.
Despite Marchbanks’ incredible momentum from his historic second round, Meza demonstrated incredible mental fortitude. Shaking off the pressure of the disappearing lead, Meza executed when it mattered most, ultimately defeating Marchbanks on the very first playoff hole to claim the MPO title.
The Chase Card
While all eyes were on the duel at the top, the rest of the field fought fiercely. Zane Letts (63-64) and Jaden Rye (62-65) finished just one stroke behind the leaders at 127, tying for 3rd place. Henry Bente, Emerson Keith, and Blake Seddens rounded out the top of the leaderboard, tying for 5th with totals of 129.
Congratulations to Fredy Meza on an incredible victory and to Mason Marchbanks for a second round that will be talked about for a long time. The Frederiksen Insurance Open once again proved why the King of DFW tour features some of the most exciting disc golf in Texas!
